The answer to this is both somewhat incomplete and a massive disturbing spoiler. Are you sure you want this answered? The whole series is massively disturbing if you ask me, so yes, I do : — Deleteman. Add a comment. Active Oldest Votes. Using the PlayStation video game as a supplemental canon source, here is what we know about the pilots: From "Classified Information": "A unit called a core is used to eliminate the discrepancies in Eva, a human being with the body of a god and a soul.

It is my considered opinion that Touji as well as everyone in Shinji's class was on the list of potential candidates so that if the time came that there was need to manipulate Shinji, someone very close to him could be used. Kaji's contact unnamed confirmed that every child in Shinji's class was included, but none were active pilots.

When the time came to take Shinji down a notch, Gendou used Touji to properly wound Shinji. I doubt that Touji would even have been able to activate his Eva, much less pilot it.

From the Evangelion Proposal page 11 , it mentioned that: When choosing the pilot, the A10 nerve synchronization rate and the adaptivity to impact is the most important. I think the hypothesis that "pilot's mother's soul must be in the eva" was not clearly specified by the production team in the original series because: This add horror element to the story, which is not the main purpose of this setting It is mentioned that pilots can switch EVAs.

This makes the setting of the show less believable, as the whole class are pilot candidates. I've only seen the anime, so maybe this is contradicted elsewhere, but I don't think most pilots can pilot other Evas.

Only Rei does so in the original anime, piloting Unit and Unit I think she's a special case and we can't really judge the general rule from her. There is a sex scene, but it is off camera and only has a minute of suggestive sounds, and nothing is shown. The male characters can be pervy at times, even though they are just teenagers, but they live in Japan, meaning the age of consent is a lot lower which makes these things ok, which I would clarify to someone that doesn't know that.

Moving on from that, the show is really dark. The creator was severely depressed while making Evangelion and the characters have a lot of mental problems. Some characters who died before episode one have been shown to commit suicide. It is also the apocalypse and there is not much hope, which fused with other things, can be really depressing.

Also moving on from that, the story can get really confusing if you haven't analyzed everything, but luckily, there are people who have. It's not bad to research for a bit on things you don't understand, as most people don't on their first run. There is smoking but is just things some of the characters do which is absolutely normal and not focused on one bit. Beer is used as I would say as comic relief when Minato drinks it first thing in the morning, but it does not encourage drinking.

The ending is happy, but not quite satisfying if you don't know what happens, as most of the ending is super confusing.

It ends of with a positive note about understanding your flaws and loving yourself. Overall, Evanegelion is a great show that focuses on the psychological states of it's characters and has really good graphics for it's time, and has great character development and good action scenes.

I left this out but the language in the show is only as bad as the language that would be used in a PG movie, and profanity isn't used often. Sorry if this whole review is jumbled and stuff like that this is my first review on the site and spent a lot of time righting it. Also Rei is best girl!

Bonus: End of Evangelion because there is not a page for that yet End of Evangelion deserves an R rating. I'm not going to delve into it's plot or themes, because it and it's show's plot and themes are similar, only with this one being way darker. Sex: The opening scene shows the female nipples which are colored in and detailed of a person in a coma, which someone masturbates to, and also includes the only F word, otherwise the language is really the same as in the TV show.

There is also an image of female genitalia but it might be hard to notice because it is placed on a forehead and on hands, though i don't know the meaning of it it doesn't have to do with sex. The whole movie is not afraid of showing full breasts and is not uncommon through the movie. The violence is also toned up by a ton. An army of soldiers swarm an area and kill many people, which includes blood, gunshots, and bullet holes.

The Eva fight contains Eva organs, like the guts or the brain, which is quite graphic and gory. The ending I won't spoil, as it is in my opinion the best ending out of the 2. End of Evangelion definitely deserves an R rating and parents should consider if they want kids seeing this stuff. Written by Anonymous September 17, I like this show, but there are many things that should keep children away. There is a lot of violence; after all, that is the primary appeal. There is a few scenes of nudity, but is obscured most of the time with no details being shown.

There are some heavy topics explored such as total annihilation and psychological torment. The show was given a TV-MA rating in the states for a reason, it holds no punches. If you are planning to watch this with your children, find the edited version.

An incredible show that combines great mecha action, with deep psychological bits, and intense and heart wrenching drama. If you are a kid and want to watch it because you heard about it, or you think it looks cool and are under 12, I beg you. Hold off a little while. And it is the synchronization of the threads and bundles of A10 that splice pilot and Eva together; to become one entity, to fight.

In other words, the power of love drives this weapon of mass destruction. Well, what a simple and corny and emotional and wonderful story. I see That does explain a couple of things, like why all the canidates where children, the selected always motherless.

So then, does every Evangelion required to absorb a maternal figure to create something to synchronize with? Is that the real reason Yui and Asuka's mother sub jected themselves to that test?

Guy » Sat Jul 17, am Didn't it also have to do with being born around 2nd Impact? I think I read that somewhere :? But I don't think it's nessacary See, Yui was absorbed by the Eva in an accident.

She wasn't suppose to be absorbed, and thus her soul wasn't meant to be in it maybe? As for Kyoko I have no idea.

Maybe her soul went to the Eva to be near Asuka? To make up for lost time? Just my thoughts :? He is a maniupulative man; he seduced Naoko and Ritsuko for his own desires. If she was never absorbed into the unit, how would the unit function to protect humans from the angels, but more importantly in his eyes, bring forth Third Impact.

The question is, with Asuka's mom hanging herself in their house, how did her soul enter the physical body of Unit 02? However, when Kyouko's soul was absorbed into Unit 02, her body still remained.

That's my take on it anyway, I doubt anyone could remain very sane for long without a soul. When Yui and Gendou first found out about Seele's plans to initiate third impact, it was their intentions to stop it.
